New Patriotic Party’s (NPP’s) running mate in the 2012 elections, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has virtually surrendered himself to the police, saying he is ready to assist the police in any investigation aimed at unraveling the cause of the near fatal accident he survived two Sundays ago, on the Bole road.

A press release from the office of Dr. Bawumia enumerating his cooperation with the police since the incident occurred last Sunday, seriously contradicts earlier claims by his party’s General Secretary Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, who had said Dr. Bawumia was not cooperating with the police because he and the NPP did not trust them, hence they were carrying out their own private forensic investigations.

The NPP General Secretary had explained that his party took the decision because, it suspected that President John Mahama and his National Security chiefs had planned to kill Dr. Bawumia on his way from the Northern Region, therefore it had towed the accident vehicle to an undisclosed location for its own investigations.

Dr. Bawumia’s press statement last Friday, followed a directive from the police to the party to produce the mangled vehicle to assist them investigate the circumstances that led to the accident, which the NPP General Secretary, said happened after two of the vehicle’s tyres exploded mysteriously.

But the police later found the vehicle at a garage at Labadi, in Accra.

Below, is Dr. Bawumia’s press statement dated March 22, 2013 and titled “ACCIDENT ON BOLE – BAMBOI ROAD AND ISSUES ARISING”.
