Bawumia needs 24-hour protection – NPP MP

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Nsawam/Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh has called on the state and for that matter the government to provide 24-hour security for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the principal witness in the landmark electoral case before the Supreme Court to ensure that the case ends successful without any threat to the stability of the nation.

The MP noted that the security of Dr Bawumia has become increasingly important at this time in the case when the number of pink sheets presented by the petitioners in the case has become a huge subject of controversy between him and respondents in the case.

He said if the security of Dr Bawumia is taken for granted and ‘anything’ happens to him, it will go a long way to disturb the security and stability of the nation which will have dire consequences on the democratic dispensation of the country.

“I am very disturbed about the security of the star witness in this landmark case because he is the main witness in this case in which the whole nation is anxiously waiting for its outcome and for that matter his evidence would be vital in the direction of governance of the country after the case is finally determined by the Supreme Court,” he pointed out.

The Nsawam/Adoagyiri MP, who was speaking to DAILY GUIDE, stressed that the 24-hour security should also be extended to the wife and children of the star witness because their lives are also very precious to him and should be safeguarded.

“A certain man of God told me that the life of Dr Bawumia and that of his immediate family are in great danger and that he should be prayed for,” he told Daily Guide, stressing that he cannot, but agree totally with the man of God, especially at this crucial stage of the landmark case at the Supreme Court.

“We are at crossroad and the case has indeed reached a level where all the parties could expect major twists to the determination of the case and that all the parties would like to throw in their last arsenals to ensure that they win the case,” he said.

Annoh-Dompreh also commended staff of the Supreme Court, especially those at the registry for their steadfastness to the smooth running of the case.

He asked the workers of the registry to take good care of the pink sheets now that the focus has turned to auditing.

“I want to call on KPMG, the accounting firm contracted by the Supreme Court to audit the pink sheets to do a thoroughly professional job and make sure the pink sheets are properly secured,” he said.

He cautioned that the ruling National Democratic Congress(NDC) should not make any attempt to destroy any of the pink sheet now that its lawyer in the case is deliberately questioning the integrity and credibility of Dr Bawumia in terms of the true number of ‘disputed’ pink sheets presented to the court because all eyes are now watching while all ears are listening too.
