A former Junior Common Room Vice President of the University Hall, popularly known as Katanga Cedric Ofosu Fianko is accusing Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia of breaking a promise he made to them in 2012 regarding the conversion of their hall into a mixed hall.
Female students have already been admitted into the hall amid heavy security presence following the dismissal of an injunction application case seeking to prevent the management of the University from converting two male halls of residence of the University into a mixed one.
On Friday, a number of them who successfully completed the registration process spent their first night at University Hall (Katanga) and Unity Hall (Conti).
“We went ahead [after the court ruling] and registered the students so I’m sure many of them are in their rooms as we speak,” Public Relations Officer of KNUST, Kwame Yeboah had said.
“I went to all the halls this morning and I saw them relax and I was surprised to see many females in both University hall and then the Unity hall,” he noted.
But the old boys of Katanga have vowed to fight the conversion.
Cedric Ofosu Fianko, former JCR Vice President says Dr Bawumia visited the hall and made a promise to them that the hall will not be converted if they vote for his government.
“In 2012 when I was vice president of Katanga Dr Bawumia promised under his watch Katanga will never be turned into a mixed hall. The question is where did Katangese go wrong by supporting him? Fellows are rising. Ebob) ba………” He wrote.
