Dr Ekwow Spio Garbrah, flagbearer aspirant of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has suggested that if former President John Agyekum Kufuor and Jerry John Rawlings are resting while Ghanaians take care of them, former President John Mahama should also do the same.

"Former president Kufuor and Rawlings have finished their work and they are resting. If you are a former President Ghanaians take care of you so why don’t you allow Ghanaians to take care of you for another person to do the work" he said on Thursday's edition of Peace FM morning show 'Kokrokoo'.

Former President John Dramani Mahama is among six other candidates asking delegates of the party to vote for him again to lead the party in the 2020 elections.

However, Dr Spio Garbrah says if the NDC wants to win the 2020 elections, he is the best candidate to be voted for.

He says it will not be in the interest of the party to vote for former President Mahama because he can only help the party to stay in office for four years.

"Mahama can only serve for four years so why won’t you go for someone who can go for eight years? The party should think about this…. why don’t we look for a new leader right now for eight years in governance…it is Spio’s time. If you want NDC to win 2020; vote for Spio Garbrah…"

Meanwhile, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) will on Saturday, February 23, 2019 hold its election that would choose a candidate for the party ahead of the 2020 General Elections.

A communication from the party indicated that the first notice of the poll will be made available on January 26, 2019, with the final print done on January 28, 2019, while the printing of the ballot papers will begin on February 3.

The party completed the balloting process for the flagbearer aspirants on Wednesday with Mr Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, picking the first spot.

The positions of all the various aspirants on the ballot paper are as follows:

1* Alban S.K Bagbin

2* Nurideen Iddrisu

3* John Dramani Mahama

4* Sylvester Mensah

5* Ekwow Spio-Garbrah

6* Goosie Tanoh
