The National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Jake Obetsebi Lamptey has cautioned the media to be circumspect in their reportage of the reported pockets of violence between members of the NPP and NDC.

This, according to him, will help quell attempts to portray NPP as a violent party.

There have been several reports of attacks on NDC supporters by some alleged NPP members following the refusal of the latter’s Presidential candidate to concede defeat after the December 7 elections.

Several market were forced to flee the Makola market on Wednesday following clashes between the supporters of the two rival parties.

Speaking on Citi FM in Accra, the NPP Chairman stated that the media “should be careful about reporting [issues] of that nature. We know that there are some people who are wearing T-shirts of the party, especially the NPP, who are not NPP people and then they are going around doing certain things and acting some ways as agent propagators.”

In his view such persons should be arrested and “dealt with for doing the things that they are doing. If you break the law, the law should deal with you. There is no such thing as lawlessness by the NPP supporter.”

The NPP Chairman insisted that no member of the party will channel his or her energy into attacking a rival party because "an NPP supporter will be channel ling his and her energy into supporting the party in a more serious way."
