Bimbilla: Three arrested for engaging police in shootout

The Police in Bimbilla in the Northern region have arrested three persons for violating curfew and engaging the security forces who attempted to arrest them in a shootout.

The three suspects responded with their local fire arms when the soldiers patroling the town fired warning shots to compel them to stop.

They were, however, overpowered and arrested. The arms were retrieved and are currently in Police custody. The suspects were arrested Monday dawn.

According to Starr FM’s Northern regional Correspondent Eliasu Tanko, the suspects are sympathisers of the late Nakpa Na, a faction in the current chieftaincy crisis in the area.

Tanko reports that the Police has also failed to reveal the identities of the suspects as investigations have begun into the incident.

In a related development, six persons have been arrested transporting pump action guns and dozens of cartridge to Namong in the Yunyoo constituency where tensions over creation of a new district is escalating.

The suspects have been identified as Haruna Issah, 30, Jabut Nwoyo 37, Danso Suuk 30, Taiku Kwabena 30, Frank Fuseini 42 and Tahiru Ayariga 55.

Taiku Kwabena claimed ownership of the guns and the ammunition according to regional Police Commander DCOP Patrick Adusei Sarpong.
