Black Stars will achieve good things with Otto Addo - Majeed Ashimeru

Ghana midfielder Majeed Ashimeru believes the Black Stars have the potential to succeed with Otto Addo at the helm.

Addo, 45, was reappointed as head coach by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in March of this year, signing a 34-month contract with an optional 24-month extension.

While Addo's tenure began on a strong note with consecutive wins in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic, the road to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) has been less smooth.

Ghana currently sit third in Group F with just one point, following a 1-0 loss to Angola and a 1-1 draw against Niger.

This marks their poorest start to an AFCON qualifying campaign since 1961, putting their hopes of participating in next year's tournament in Morocco in jeopardy.

Despite the rough start, Ashimeru is confident Otto Addo will achieve things with the senior national team.

"It feels really amazing to be able to be called because we have so many players out here in Ghana," the Anderlecht midfielder told Flashscore.com.

"Working with Otto Addo is something I've been waiting for a long time. Having the time to work with him, I can say he's a good coach and I feel like we have so many things to achieve together. It feels good to work with him," he added.

The Black Stars are set to regroup next month for a crucial doubleheader against Sudan. Ghana will host the Falcons at a venue yet to be confirmed, before traveling to Libya for the return leg at the Martyrs of February Stadium.
