Blackouts will be a thing of the past – Chief of Staff

The Chief of Staff Prosper Bani has assured Ghanaians that the irksome and erratic power supply in Ghana will end soon.

He said with the coming on stream of the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant which recorded its first gas flow in a test run Monday, enough fuel will be available to power the Aboadze Thermal Plant in Takoradi to produce constant and enough power.

Ghana is currently facing an unscheduled load shedding which has affected a number of businesses, especially in the capital Accra.

But Bani said the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has embarked on a number of initiatives to ease the challenges the young oil-producing country is facing, and the positive effect will be felt soon.

“Undoubtedly, Ghana has been confronted with a number of challenges in recent times including and not limited to the energy shortfalls, agitations at the labour front and the effort to bring stability to the economy and recognisable some degree of unemployment,” the chief of staff pointed out.

“I can say with some certainty and confidence that under the leadership of John Mahama efforts are being made with the coming on stream of the gas which we pray will come very soon, challenges of energy provision will be an issue of the past.”

He added: “In spite of the economic challenges facing the country today, the president has initiated concrete and result-oriented initiatives to ensure that this country is built on a third economic coating that will propel us to the economic gains that we all aspire to achieve.”

The Atuabo Gas Processing Plant is expected to be commissioned in a month’s time.
