Member of Parliament for Assin Central Constituency, Hon. Ken Agyapong has stated that the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the opposition NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako aka Wontumi has done very well for standing up to the Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Afari Gyan in the manner he did.

Hot verbal exchanges between Dr Kwadwo Afari-Gyan, the Electoral Commission (EC) and Chairman Wontumi, abruptly brought to an end a meeting between the EC and the NPP on Thursday.

NPP top shots were making a follow-up to a complaint about the high number of people whose names had been deleted from the electoral register in the region. But what initially seemed a peaceful meeting suddenly turned into a war of words.

In the course of the meeting, Dr Afari-Gyan did not feel comfortable about Wontumi’s comments that he would not allow the EC to intentionally disenfranchise several people in the region in 2016 as it (EC) did in 2012.

The EC Chairman considered Wontumi’s accusation as a threat on his life so he vowed to report the matter to the police for the NPP guru to be arrested, but Wontumi retorted that he was only raising genuine concerns about his party.

In reaction to the incident that broke between Dr. Afari Gyan and Chairman Wontumi in the Ashanti Region, the NPP MP for Assin Central lauded the stance of his Ashanti Regional Chairman, saying the EC boss was wicked who deserves worse treatment than what he got from Chairman Wontumi.

Hon. Ken Agyapong asserted that the EC deliberately chose electoral officials from the ruling NDC to preside over the 2012 elections against the norm when teachers were used previously to preside over elections in the country, believing that some of the teachers are NPP and NDC members.

“But Afari Gyan, due to his wickedness, you see his disgrace; the guy should have slapped him. He is a useless man; whatever is happening in this country and to Ghanaians is disgusting to me and he is the one to blame for all the hardships…..as for EC, I will not trust them today or tomorrow. If you rely on EC, you will be disappointed…..Wontumi is my best chairman; his style matches with mine because if you sit aloof, you will be fooled”, he chided on Oman Fm’s Morning Show National Agenda.
