The National OrganiSer for the National Democratic Congress Mr. Kofi Adams has stated that the National Youth Organizer of the ruling NPP government should be blamed for the various acts of vigilantism and vandalism ongoing in the country.

According to Mr. Kofi Adams, Mr. Sammy Awuku encouraged the youth groups of the NPP prior to the 2012 general election to grab any position they want as soon as the party is declared winner of the election.

Speaking on Joy TV Mr. Adams indicated that such a comment was worrying as it has given the guts to the youth to embark on the current mayhem in the country.

Mr. Awuku was on record to have incited the NPP youth by stating that ‘‘’….As soon as the NPP is declared winners of the 2012 elections, those of you who have finished school and do not have jobs, should take positions. Do not call me to ask me where should I stand, just take positions….if it is a Metro mass office that is near you, take position, if it is NHIS, take position; because myself (Sammy Awuku), I am also targeting some files.

At that time Annor Dompreh your constituency youth organiser will also be taking his position, so do not call him. If you go to take your positions and your authority is questioned; that is when you have to call your constituency youth organiser. After taking your positions, we will then come and put things in order….’’

His comment was widely condemned forcing him to come out to publicly apologise.

However Mr. Adams believe that such comments may have given the supporters the impression to attack government appointees and locking up offices.

Vigilante groups affiliated to the New Patriotic Party have been in the news lately for causing acts of vandalism over the country.

On Wednesday October 24, youth group in Karaga attacked the District Chief Executive for giving appointment to aliens who have no connection with the NPP.

In less than 24 hours another youth group in the Sissala District of the Northern region also attacked the Sissala DCE Muhammed Bokor for appointing a coordinator for MASLOC instead of a collectively agreed person.

Over twenty acts of vandalism have been recorded since NPP won the 2016 election.
