Residents of Ayehbromu North, a suburb of Suhum Municipality in the Eastern Region, were Thursday afternoon thrown into a state of shock when a 13- year-old boy, Kwame James of Anglican Primary Six, was seen hanging in his mother’s room.

The body has been deposited at the Suhum Government Hospital awaiting autopsy while the police are investigating the cause of death.

An eyewitness, Kwaku Atse, told DAILY GUIDE that the mother of the deceased, Sister Aku, sent him in the morning to buy some foodstuffs from the market, but he refused to go, and when she complained the son got hungry.

According to Atse, the mother took a cane and beat him for refusing to go on the errand. The angry mother herself went to buy the foodstuffs, came back to prepare the meal and left the son in the house for her shop.

He disclosed that at about 3:30 pm, a tenant noticed that Kwame James’ mother’s door was opened and when he attempted to close it, spotted the boy dangling on a wire hanged on the ceiling fan. He raised an alarm, and the attention of other tenants was attracted, Mr. Atse posited.

When contacted by DAILY GUIDE, Sister Aku, mother of the deceased, said she had left the house for her shop when the sad incident happened. She confirmed giving the boy some punishment after he had refused to go on an errand.

She narrated, ”Around 4:00 pm a neighbour came to my workplace shedding tears and informed me that my son had committed suicide.

I rushed to the house and found his lifeless body hanging on the ceiling fan.”

The Suhum Police Commander, DSP Musirihi Yahaya, confirmed the incident when contacted, adding that the police were seriously investigating it to unravel the cause of death.
