A former chairperson of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Samia Yaba Nkrumah, has indicated that the printing and circulation of error-ridden brochures for Ghana’s 59th Independence Day celebrations reflect government’s ineptitude at running the country.

The daughter of Ghana’s first president, who failed in her bid to lead the party as flagbearer into the 2016 general elections, said: “It would never have happened under an administration that believes in thorough planning. It is just a sad reflection of the state of affairs. You can imagine what happens with the management of our economy and our projects.”

Ms. Nkrumah made the observation in an interview with Ekow Mensah-Shalders on Class 91.3 FM’s Executive Breakfast Show on Thursday 10 March 2016.

The former legislator for Jomoro constituency in the Western Region has been a critic of the Mahama-led government. She believes a lack of proper planning and vision has ruined the country’s economy and the lives of citizens.

The brochures handed to guests on Sunday 6 March, to commemorate the anniversary at the Black Star Square, described Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta as the President of Ghana. There were also very obvious grammatical errors, spelling mistakes, and a myriad of factual inaccuracies.

Ghana’s Coat of Arms was printed as the ‘Coat of Arm’ among a raft of erroneous descriptions, which have drawn public criticism and international ridicule.

Meanwhile, the head of the Information Services Department Francis Kwarteng Arthur has been fired after taking responsibility for the gaffe.
