Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper has lashed out at the Minority group in Parliament, describing a press conference it organized criticizing the Bui Power Authority as a disgrace.

The Minority led by its spokesperson on Finance, Anthony Akoto Osei, alleged that the Bui Power Authority had been allowed by government to spend $3 million on a Golf Park and other recreational facilities for top management of the Brong Ahafo-based power producer.

But the Bui Power Authority vehemently denied the claim.

It is at the backdrop of this that the Insight Managing Editor is referring to the Minority’s press conference as an act of shame which should not be encouraged.

“This is highly irresponsible and disgraceful for the Minority in Parliament; indeed representing the largest opposition party (NPP) to make such errors…It is the height of irresponsibility. They couldn’t have checked their facts? What does it take to crosscheck this simple fact?” he quizzed.

Kwesi Pratt also expressed disgust at the rate at which the NPP picks documents they chance on without crosschecking their authenticity.

“I get very alarmed when they turn around and say ‘we found it in documents’ as if anything you find in a document is the truth. There are many documents circulating around. So if you find a document you go and hold a press conference and read it out? What level of irresponsibility is this? This is grossly incompetent and irresponsible,” he condemned.

Kwesi Pratt revealed that as part of the Bui hydroelectric project, there was a proposal to build a Bui City in which a Golf Park was envisaged.

“This is a plan the NPP itself adopted. The Bui City project! And this is what they chanced upon and decided to flag it all over the place. This is incredible,” he bewailed.

At the same press conference, the Minority in Parliament said the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) is also spending $63,000 a month as rent for offices at East Legon.

The Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper questioned why the NPA would misuse the hard-earned money of taxpayers at a time when the country is in an economic crisis.

According to him, there cannot be any excuse for the wastage of public funds, noting that the NPA can build offices within six months if it has the aforementioned amount to rent plush offices.

Kwesi Pratt Junior spoke on Radio Gold’s current affairs programme, Alhaji and Alhaji with Alhassan Suhuyini, Saturday.
