The Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako, has publicly sided with former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo.

He asserts that the allegations presented in the petitions against Justice Gertrude Torkornoo lacked the necessary weight to warrant her dismissal from the positions of Chief Justice and the Head of the Judiciary.

Why Ghana is yet to file a response to Torkornoo’s case at the ECOWAS Court

Sophia Akuffo had stated that the removal of Justice Torkornoo from office by President John Dramani Mahama has weakened the judicial arm of government.

In a TV3 interview on September 2, 2025, she said; “They (the allegations) lack the gravity that warrants the removal of the head of an institution of justice. I pray to God that no Chief Justice, no Judge should go through this rigmarole again.”

In his reply to Kofi Bentil's Facebook post, backing Justice Akuffo, on September 2, 2025, Kweku Baako said he agrees with Justice Akuffo's opinion on the recent removal of the former Chief Justice.

However, he, also noted that he had previously disagreed with her when she found a prima facie case against Charlotte Osei, leading to the former EC Chairperson’s removal from office.

“I agree with her (Sophia Akuffo's) judgment on the effect of the recommendations of the Pwamang Committee. In the same way, I disagreed with her (Sophia Akuffo's) prima facie determination on the petition against Charlotte Osei. The prima facie determination and the subsequent Justice Benin Committee's recommendation on Charlotte Osei, which was largely driven by her (Sophia Akuffo's) prima facie determination,” he wrote.
