Minister of Education, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh has faulted Vincent Ekow Assifuah, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of his ministry and officials Ghana Education Service (GES) for muddying the waters in the matter of the now controversial proposed Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) in Ghana, MyNewsGh.com reports.
According to him, the Public Relations (PR) department of the GES, headed by Cassandra Twum Ampofo, “spoiled the matter” in its quest to clear the air and debunk claims that the CSE was a subtle way of introducing homosexuality to pupils.
He was responding to a question posed to him by Sebastian Freiku, the Supervising Editor of the Chronicle Newspaper in the Ashanti Region, as to why he would not leave matters of communication about the CSE to the GES and the Information Ministry, when he met “senior journalists” in Kumasi on Friday, monitored by MyNewsGh.com .
“I don’t mind at all having people attack me; but if I can’t explain myself well, that Ekow Vincent the party brought, he was too lousy and you could punch your own tummy if you listened to him; timid souls; the sort of attacks that are coming on the Ministry of Education, you need the minister to be frontal”, he said.
The Manhyia South MP revealed how he had to call the Director-general of the GES and the Executive Director of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA), sat them down to tell them, “I have your back, you’ve done nothing wrong, go out there and speak your mind from the bottom of your hearts; if the shit comes I will take it”, before they appeared to speak on the matter on national television.
“I’m prepared to take the shit because I’m prepared to enjoy the fruits thereof; that’s reelection of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo”, he noted.
