Carlos Queiroz is the new Black Stars coach
New Black Stars head coach, Carlos Queiroz has expressed gratitude to his predecessor while outlining his ambition to take Ghana beyond its current level, insisting that his focus is on improving the foundation already laid.
Speaking after his unveiling on Thursday, April 23, 2026, Queiroz acknowledged the work of former coach Otto Addo, who guided Ghana to qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“I want to improve the legacy of Otto Addo. I thank Otto Addo for qualifying for the World Cup,” he said.
However, the Portuguese tactician was quick to stress that his mandate goes beyond qualification, as he aims to build a stronger, more consistent team capable of competing at the highest level.

“What we are doing now is to make an honest and integrity approach, to know where we stand in the next games. Based on the conclusions we are going to make, bringing in the right players. We have to be sure to bring in the right players to make a right team. And what we are doing now is to study, analyse anything that is with the team,” he added.
Queiroz, who has managed elite sides such as Real Madrid and Portugal, appears determined to instill a culture of honesty, competition, and precision in team selection.
While acknowledging past success, he made it clear that the next phase is about evolution, transforming qualification into genuine competitiveness on the world stage.
