The Ghana Police Service will soon unfold structural changes which are intended to enhance the operations of the internal security organization in response to the increasing demands of the times.

One of the structural changes which has already taken effect is the increased police visibility at vantage spots in Accra.

A source at the Police headquarters said under the soon-to-be announced changes and innovations, superior officers will be transferred to new command positions with additional schedules.

In response to the rising incidence of vehicular accidents, plans are far advanced to get representatives of private road transport owners to partner the Police in stemming the avoidable fatalities on the country’s highways, details of which are still being worked out.

More state-of-the-art gadgets such as CCTV cameras will be acquired to assist in the apprehension of cops who collect bribe and dent the image of the security agency.

Some policemen were recently exposed collecting bribe by some CCTV cameras, and the defaulters are being scrutinized so appropriate disciplinary action will be taken against them.

With more of the gadgets coming, bribery could be on the verge of being a challenged depravation in the Police Service, Daily Guide has learnt.

The source also explained that the Police administration now seeks to increase police visibility in vantage points as a way of deterring crime.

“Such visibilities are already discernible at the Kawo Kudi traffic intersection and other parts of the nation’s capital. More personnel are being sent out on patrol duties as part of the measures to increase police visibility around the country,” DAILY GUIDE was told.

More and more policemen and women are being disgorged from office work for such patrols because of the importance the Police administration attaches to the visibility of the police.

“More police personnel on patrol now have communication gadgets or walkie talkies with which they are in touch with their commanders for effective policing,” the source told DAILY GUIDE.
