Former Member of Parliament for Bantama Constituency in the Ashanti Region has revealed that Chinese involvement in ‘Galamsey’ is not only destroying water bodies but has waged a subtle war on Ghana’s ecosystem as well.
According to Hon. Henry Kwabena Kokofu, these Chinese ‘Galamseyers’ ruin every water body they get close to and also “eat all the frogs around the area”.
“…they have eaten all the frogs in this Country and there is no wonder we don’t hear frogs croaking anymore and that tells us we must take the fight against ‘galamsey’ seriously,” he said on UTV.
He made these statement during a discussion on the sophistication and technology introduced by Chinese illegal miners which comes along with massive devastation and degradation of the environment.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has however, maintained that the campaign is meant to stop wrongdoing and not to witch-hunt Chinese.
