Ghanaian Christian Atsu was introduced to an unfamiliar wing-back role on Saturday when Newcastle United travelled to face Rochdale in the FA Cup third round.
Christian Atsu was deployed as a wing-back in Jetro Willems’ absence and he excelled. The 27-year-old tormented the defence of Rochdale with his runs and defended very well.
Atsu assisted the first goal of the match. He got the better of Magloire again before darting to the byline and putting the ball on a plate for Almirón, who lashed beyond goalkeeper Robert Sánchez from the near side of the area to open the scoring for Newcastle.
However, the surrendered the lead in the second half as the host drew level in the 79th minute.
The draw means there will be a replay of the clash at St James Park.
