An Accra Circuit Court, on Wednesday, remanded Mohammed Awal, a scrap dealer in Police custody over an alleged phone robbery.

The accused person, however, pleaded not guilty and would reappear on Tuesday, June 12.

The Court, presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh, on Friday, February 4, sentenced Ibrahim Musah, another scrap dealer, and an accomplice of Mohammed, to 10 years in prison in hard labour, for the same offence.

The court convicted Ibrahim on his own plea of guilty and sentenced him, accordingly.

Superintendent of Police, Madam Patient Mario, told the Court that the complainant in the case was a Sales Representative at MTN Head Office.

She said on January 25, at about 2300 hours, Awal and Ibrahim, were riding together on a motorbike when they attacked and robbed the complainant of his Infinix Note 2 mobile phone by threatening him with a knife around the Abossey Okai Roundabout.

She said just when they were about to flee the scene, the complainant identified Mohammed, now as having been his Junior High School classmate.

The Prosecutor said Mohammed realising that he had been identified, removed the chip and battery from the complainant’s mobile phone and caused damaged to it before both fled the scene.

Supt. Mario said the Police, while on the lookout for the accused person over the months, arrested him in a similar case and brought before the Court.
