The owner of Rahama Forex Bureau, Samuel Addai, has given his account of the attempted robbery incident at his establishment on Friday, November 22, 2024.
Speaking to the media following the botched robbery attempt, Mr. Addai said he received a distress call around 11:05 in the morning from his employees, alerting him of the ongoing heist at the facility.
He said he alerted the police, who quickly surrounded the establishment in a bid to arrest the suspects.
"According to them, a customer, who is a male suspect, came supposedly to change money, and in the process, the rate he asked for was not accepted, so he stepped out again.
"He returned in some ten, twenty minutes and presented half of what he intended to exchange. When he gave the money he planned to exchange, CFA Franc, he pointed a gun at the lady and demanded that she open the gate, which is burglar-proof, to him. The counter is a bit high, so the lady, while pretending to open it, ducked under the counter.
"The robbers attempted to open the burglar-proof gate but were unable to. While hiding below, the ladies were unable to determine when the robbers escaped, but they were able to access their phone, so that was when they placed the call to me; at the time, the robbers were forcing the door to open. I was closer to the police at the time, so I alerted them, and when we arrived here, they had already escaped," Mr. Addai reported.
He added that the police also met a woman in the facility who had earlier sought to exchange money. He, however, emphasised that the account of the said lady seems not to be adding up and that he hopes the police investigation will establish her innocence or otherwise.
He revealed that the suspects, in their bid to escape arrest, left behind the CFA Franc they had initially sought to exchange.
He added that a technician is in the process of retrieving CCTV footage of the incident.
The owner of Rahama Forex Bureau LTD, where there was an attempted robbery earlier today, Mr. Samuel Addai, has given a firsthand account of the events prior to the incident.
