Cracks in NDC over Mahama’s endorsement

The Minority National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament are divided over reported endorsement of the candidature of former President John Mahama by some of its members ahead of the party’s primaries to elect a Flagbearer.

Forms have been sent around in Parliament urging NDC MPs to sign as endorsement of Mr Mahama’s 2020 candidature.

The likes of the MP for Adaklu, Kwame Agbodza claims Minority MPs have had several meetings with the former President and assured him of their support of his candidature should he contest.

“We have met him and encouraged him just as other people have encouraged other people including the Second Deputy Speaker, we’re galvanizing our own resources, raising funds by ourselves to support ex-President Mahama if he contests.”

However his colleague MP from the Volta Region, Richard Quashigah has said a lot of MPs were coerced into signing the endorsement document.

“Some colleagues of mine could be excited about endorsing the former President but I know a lot of them that have reflected to me that they did that out of reluctance, I’m not even sure the list is 94 MPs as we’re being told. I dare that they should publish the list which they claim is 94 MPs on the Minority side.”

Member of Parliament for Yunyo, Joseph Naabu on his part has stressed he was deceived to sign the endorsement document because he was an attendance sheet to check absenteeism in Parliament.

“They just brought the list Members of Parliament thought that it was the normal checking that is why most of them signed and I even told them that did they have blocks on their ears because they know that I’m for honourable Bagbin so I was very surprised they went around saying all Members of Parliament or those MPs who signed are supporting Mahama.”
