The December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections in Ghana will definitely come off in spite of the several issues that have characterised activities by the Electoral Commission (EC), Mr Martin Agyei-Mensah Korsah, Director of Elections of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said.

According to him, although there have been some issues with the printing of the ballot papers as well as a plethora of court actions against the election management body, the NPP is optimistic that Ghanaians will go to the polls to elect a new president and members of parliament as planned.

The EC is at the moment sorting issues out with some of the 13 flag bearers who were disqualified from contesting in the elections due to errors on their nomination forms but have been given the opportunity to correct those errors latest by 5pm on Tuesday, 8 November.

As was ordered by the Supreme Court, on Wednesday November 9, the EC will announce all those who have been able to correct their mistakes and make it onto the ballot paper.

Speaking in an interview with Accra 100.5 FM’s Obeng Mensah Katakyie on Tuesday November 8, Mr Korsah said: “The elections will come off as scheduled. We know on our part that it will come off although there have been a few issues with the printing of the ballot papers especially the haste that will characterise the printing of the presidential ballot papers.”

“Ghanaians are yearning for the NPP and so they can’t wait to go to the polls on December 7.”
