Members of New Patriotic Party (NPP) vigilante group, Delta Force have threatened to defect to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) if they continue to receive unfair treatment from the party’s hierarchy.
On Kumasi-based Silver Fm, one Ernest Appiah Dankwa who is a leading member of the group said they have suffered much for the party but they have been paid back with vice and made to understand they are illiterates without certificates.
“We are more than 1,000 and worked for the party after joining them from the NDC 8 years ago. We have worked for the party to come into power and suffered various forms of injustices but today they are calling us criminals. If that is the case, we will soon return to the NDC and work for them in 2020 because our sacrifices have not been appreciated since we do not have the certificates”, he revealed.
He wondered why the party failed to demand for their certificates and never tagged them as criminals while in opposition only to do the reverse three months into power.
“We risked our lives and were being chased with guns left-right and centre but they hailed us. Some of us for 8 years have lost our jobs and cannot cater for our families but this is the reward we get for supporting them…….I can assure you that we will soon return to the NDC”, he warned.
Ernest Appiah Dankwa also said they feel betrayed by the leadership of the NPP who prior to arriving at court on Thursday promised they were going to be released only for the judge to remand them a situation they found disappointing and shocking.
“We thought that the issue had already been resolved at the court. Our leaders told us that, our executives were already at the court dealing with the case; but little did we know that our people will be remanded on the day. So we argued that if that be the case, then, all of us should be arrested because we have over 1,000 members in the Delta Force, but not all of us went to the court,” he added.
