Ghanaian defender Derrick Kohn
Executive Council (ExCo) Member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Frederick Acheampong, has expressed disappointment over criticism surrounding the exclusion of Derrick Kohn from the Black Stars squad.
Coach Carlos Queiroz's decision to leave out the Union Berlin left-back from the national team squad for the friendly match against Wales attracted criticisms from some football fans, who believe his performances have been better than those of certain players who received call-ups.
Responding to the concerns, Acheampong dismissed the claims, insisting that the coach made the right decision, given that Kohn had only featured in one friendly match for the Black Stars ahead of the World Cup.

He also rejected suggestions that Kohn was overlooked to make way for Baba Rahman, stressing that the selection was solely the coach's decision.
“I don’t want to enter into that argument. Did Derrick Kohn play in the qualifiers? So what is the assertion that someone should work for another person to come and benefit? He didn’t play in the qualifiers; it was just one friendly match. And who said nationality should be changed only for the World Cup?
“There are many Black Stars matches ahead. In September, there are AFCON qualifiers to be played. Kohn didn’t play in the qualifiers, so what is the argument that he worked for Baba Rahman to benefit?” he questioned in an interview with Kumasi-based Kessben FM.
