Don't blame Mahama alone for NDC's defeat - Kweku Baako

Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako says former President John Dramani Mahama cannot be the only person behind the defeat of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2016 elections.

According to him, "the conduct of some campaigners and key people who were put in positions of trust" also contributed to the 'abysmal' performance of the NDC in the 2016 December polls.

Earlier this week, Mr Mahama took responsibility for the NDC's defeat.

At a meeting with former appointees of government, the former President said all grievances should be directed at him because he led the party in the elections.

“Of course as the general who led us into battle, I take ultimate responsibility for our losing the election and so if it will satisfy those people, blame me for the loss,” he said.

However, Kweku Baako, contributing to a panel discussion on Joy FM's newsfile, Saturday said the former President cannot shoulder the blame alone for NDC's defeat.

“He [Mahama] has accepted ultimate responsibility for what happened and that’s leadership...it’s good if a leader comes out to say I take ultimate responsibility, but there is the element of collective responsibility. The conduct of some of the campaigners, the key people who were put in positions of trust all contributed to the abysmal outcome of their performance. That is obvious.” he noted.
