Elderly Statesman K. B. Asante says attempts to downplay Kwame Nkrumah’s role in founding Ghana is not right.

Mr. Asante, who served in Nkrumah’s Government, in an interview with XYZ News, said Dr. Kwame Nkrumah sought to transform Ghana into a modern day independent nation capable of fixing its own problems.

Persons like former lawmaker, Professor Mike Ocquaye have questioned the basis for singling out Dr. Nkrumah as the sole founder of Ghana when people like Dr. J B Danquah and his UP contemporaries played a major role in fighting for Ghana’s independence.

But K B Asante said Ghana begun losing it in terms of development when Dr. Nkrumah was overthrown in 1966.

“Nkrumah tried to establish jobs or projects in all parts of the country even at Bolgatanga, he had a corned beef factory…then our learned people said that you don’t have cattle so why do you do that but at that we were importing corned beef from Britain,” the former diplomat said.
