Vice President of Ghana Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has appealed to all qualified Ghanaians to go out and register in order to be able to vote, stressing that the right to vote should not be taken for granted given that one voter can make a difference in the country.

Speaking to the press after registering for his new voter ID card in his hometown of Walwale last week, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia enjoined Ghanaians to do well to register for the new voter ID card so as to be able to exercise their franchise despite their political persuasion.

“The right to vote is something that we should all not take for granted. So we want to ask everybody everywhere to take advantage of this voter’s registration exercise to make sure that you register. No matter what political party you support just go out and register; you can make a difference in this country,” he advised.

The Vice President then took the opportunity to praise the Electoral Commission for ensuring a speedy process while making sure registrants observe the COVID-19 safety protocols.

The Electoral Commission began compiling a new register on 30th June and will end on 6th August 2020.

The Vice President who received national voter identity (I.D) card at the Kperiga D/A Primary School polling station in Walewale, has been voting in that area in past national elections.

He observed that ‘the process was very smooth and safe. The social distancing and other Covid-19 safety protocols put in place by the Electoral Commission at the polling station were also very encouraging.

We are in challenging times because of Covid-19, but I encourage you, patriotic citizens of mother Ghana, to take part in the registration exercise”
