Former President John Dramani Mahama has stated that the double-track system implemented by the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) “is not convincing”.

Mr Mahama, who has been touring and campaigning in the Central Region to gain the mandate of delegates as the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2020 general polls, said on Friday, 28 September 2018 that: “We just finished vacation; children have been home for nearly three months, it is time to go to school then you say they have to stay home for another 41 days and let your friends go”.

“Our compatriots [NPP] do not listen to advice, they feel they know everything and do not take advice. We have talked about a national stakeholders’ conference on education but they said no. They are the only group of people who are wise,” he told a gathering of party supporters in Cape North Constituency.

The double-track system was implemented in some selected second-cycle institutions in September 2018.

Under the system, the first batch of candidates placed on the GREEN TRACK, according to a statement signed by the Head, Public Relations Unit, Ghana Education Service, Cassandra Twum Ampofo, on Tuesday, 4 September 2018, are expected to “resume” on 11 September 2018, whereas the GOLD TRACK (second batch) will resume on 8 November 2018.

Assuming the first batch of candidates (GREEN TRACK) resumes on the said date as directed by the GES and vacates on 6 November 2018, it means the candidates will attend classes for a total period of 41 days.

Those placed on the GOLD TRACK are also expected to spend a period of 40 days in school.
