Drug fight: Ghana’s democracy at risk – ex-NACOB boss

Former NACOB boss, K B Quantson has expressed fear that Ghana’s democracy will collapse if the fight against drugs fails.

He is also worried that drug barons will be major financiers of political parties if the drug trade thrives.

The former National Security coordinator, who is concerned over the seeming politicisation of the latest drug bust involving Ghanaian lady Nayele Ametefeh who was arrested in the UK with 12.5 kilos of cocaine told STARR NEWS , the development can also destabilise the democracy of the country.

“Drug is a very big business and it has very strong connections. The experiences in other parts of the world is that when this business grows, it breeds corruption.”

“We need to appreciate the effect of corruption on our democracy. We can’t have any genuine democratic system where corruption prevails. If this corruption enters your political system and your political parties, then the barons will be manipulating the manifesto, and then there is the problem,” he explained.
