Several polling stations in New Juaben North and South in the Eastern Region have still not received Voters Registers two days into the exhibition exercise being conducted by the Electoral Commission nationwide.
Whereas some polling stations are, yet to receive their materials others are only exhibiting the 2016 register while waiting for the arrival of the newly compiled 2019 register.
Many eligible voters were disappointed for not being able to verify their names due to the challenges in the ongoing exercise, which has already recorded very low turnout.
An Assembly Member for Railways Electoral Area, Daniel Joe Ahiale, says only one Polling station out of the three in his Electoral area is currently exhibiting the register while the rest await their register for the exercise.
He described the situation as worrying, fearing many voters could be disenfranchised if the challenges are not fixed.
The exhibition exercise being held for eight days is taking place in the over 30,702 polling stations across the country.
A total of 17 million voters who were registered between 2012 and 2019 are expected to visit their respective polling stations where they will be allowed to confirm or review their details
The exercise will also afford EC the opportunity to clean up the voters’ register of ghost names and minors.
All prospective voters are expected to visit their centres with their voter identification (ID) cards for easy verification
However, according to the EC, persons who failed to take their ID cards to the exhibition centres would be assisted to verify their details.
