EC Injunction: Akufo-Addo is a walking contradiction – Sam George

Member of Parliament(MP) for Ningo Prampram, Sam Nartey Dzata George has described the President of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as a walking contradiction.

Sam George secured an injuction on Friday to stop the Electoral Commission(EC) from holding its workshop at the Escape Hotel in Prampram.

However, there were reports that some officials of the EC met at the hotel on Saturday for what the Police described as an informal meeting because it was held at the lobby of the Escape Hotel. Although some members of the NDC besieged the hotel premises, they were not allowed entry by the Police.

In a post on his Facebook page to register his displeasure about the whole incident and the electoral commission’s insistence on compiling a new voters register regardless of the times the country finds itself in, Sam George described the President as a walking contradiction.

He said “President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is truly a walking contradiction. He comes to Parliament to give him special powers to restrict citizens rights. He is granted same given the circumstances we find ourselves. He passes Executive Instruments on the back of that legislation. His government uses those powers to curtail the rights of citizens and even jails some citizens for daring to flout them”.

A shocked and worried Sam George added that “The same man sits aloof and watches with glee as the Electoral Commission flouts the same laws with impunity and disregard for a Court order served on them. Wake up and smell the coffee people! These restrictions are not been evenly applied. We have an animal farm situation on our hands. 4 legs good, 2 legs bad”.

To him, since the President is disregarding tenets of his own orders, citizens are also at lliberty to defy orders to do things that will be beneficial to them.

“Maybe across the Country, Churches and Mosques must begin to hold services. Political gatherings must resume. Demonstrations must be held. All we must do is observe social distancing protocols and do so in groups of 25! For that is the standard the Police and National Security defended yesterday at the City Escape Hotel. When those expected to enforce the law become accessories to the breaking of the law, it is contingent on Citizens to arise and enforce the law.Mr. President, remember the Oath of Office you took to protect the Constitution.”

The electoral commission has insisted that the country needs another voters’ register because they old register is bloated and faulty and needs to be replaced. The Ghana Card and Passport according to the commission will be used for verification.
