The Electoral Commission of Ghana has announced changes in the companies assigned to produce ballot papers for the Oti and Western North regions in the pending general elections, 3news.com has reported.

The announcement was made by the Deputy Chairman of the Electoral Commission in Charge of Operations, Samuel Tettey, in a letter.

“This comes to inform you that Yarsarko Printing Press Ltd, originally billed to print the Presidential and Parliamentary ballots for Oti and Western North Regions, will no longer print the ballots for the two regions. Buck Press Ltd will print the Presidential and Parliamentary ballots for the Oti Region, whilst Acts Commercials Ltd will print the Presidential and Parliamentary ballots for the Western North Region,” Samuel Tettey stated.

However, the reason for the termination of the contract with Yarsarko Printing Press Ltd was not mentioned.

In every election process, the printing of ballot papers is a crucial step because it is regarded as a security-sensitive task.

Some political parties view this stage with scrutiny, citing concerns about potential underhand dealings.

The decision to replace Yarsarko Printing Press Ltd raises questions, which might have been avoided by providing an explanation for the change.

However, the communication from the Electoral Commission may reflect its ongoing efforts to maintain transparency in all preparations for the December 7 elections.
