Dr. Bossman Asare, Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), has rejected the idea that ensuring peace and the outcome of elections rests solely with the EC Chairperson.

His comments were made in response to ongoing public debates about the Commission's role in maintaining electoral integrity ahead of the December 2024 general elections.

Speaking to journalists in Accra on Monday, September 2, Dr. Asare emphasized that the success of the electoral process is a collective effort and should not be placed entirely on one individual.

He urged the public to disregard claims, even those made by notable figures, suggesting that the EC Chairperson is solely accountable for a peaceful election.

"The suggestion that the peace and the outcome of the election are hinged on the chairperson of the EC is completely untrue," Dr. Asare said.

He reiterated that the EC operates as an institution with a team of professionals committed to upholding the credibility of elections and that this responsibility is shared across the organization.

Dr. Asare also called on all stakeholders, including political parties, security agencies, and the general public, to collaborate in ensuring a fair and peaceful election.

Addressing concerns about potential electoral manipulation, Dr. Asare dismissed accusations that the Electoral Commission is attempting to manipulate the voter register to favour a particular political party.

"The EC has no intention of bloating the register to give any political party an advantage over the other," he asserted.
