Policy Advisor of the Progressive People's Party (PPP), Mr Kofi Asamoah-Siaw has accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of rigging the 7 December polls for the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) by fighting the PPP in court while the flag bearers of the two main parties had a field day campaigning.

On Tuesday 7 November, the Supreme Court by unanimous decision, ordered the EC to extend the nomination period for flag bearers to Tuesday, 8 November.

It also directed the EC to give all parties a fair hearing to make the necessary corrections on their nomination forms for which reason they were disqualified from the presidential race.

Reacting to the Supreme Court’s ruling on 12Live on Class91.3FM, Mr Asamoah-Siaw told Naa Dedei Tettey that the litigation against the PPP was unnecessary. “…The Electoral Commission has done a lot of damage to itself. This whole litigation that has lasted for about a month now was completely needless.

It has, if you like, denied us a fair opportunity to campaign and she has rigged the election for the NDC and the NPP already because while we spent some of our energy and time in court, the rest had a field day.”

“This whole deliberate scheme to rig the election in favour of the NPP and NDC was avoidable and I think that going forward, in future, the Electoral Commission should not be allowed to get away with some of these things because you’re a commission, you deliberately frustrate others by misreading the law and say that you should go and seek proper interpretation in court.

It is completely needless arrogance at the highest level and I think that the men and women who are given powers to exercise in the interest of all of us should exercise them in the interest of all of us” he added.
