ECG cuts power supply to K Poly over Ghc652,000 debt

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has cut power supply to the Kumasi Polytechnic over a 652,000 debt.

The power distribution company says it is embarking on a massive disconnection exercise to recover its debts in the Ashanti region.

The school alone owes ECG 652,000.

Students of the school are reportedly agitated over the development.

The ongoing disconnection exercise will affect several State institutions. The institutions include health posts, schools, and palaces of some prominent chiefs, government institutions and radio stations.

The Ashanti Regional Public Relations Manager of the ECG, Erasmus Kyere Baidoo, in an earlier interview told Starr News theatres and emergency wards in affected hospitals will, however, be excluded.

“We have started disconnection in full swing. All the district offices are involved. We have printed a docket from our database and they are volumes and we’ll give them block by block to our teams to make sure all those who refuse to pay we disconnect them.

“After disconnection we serve them with notices to come to our offices to pay or negotiate. Those who fail to come... I have a list of about 44 customers that I’m proceeding to the court to find out why they have not paid,” Baidoo said.
