More videos are emerging of the gory road clash that burnt two young women to death at East Legon on Saturday, October 12, 2024.
In one of these new videos of the crash, which has gone viral, it shows the events that transpired right after the vehicles involved in the fatal crash: a black Acura and a white Jaguar, collided.
The video showed the black Acura, whose driver and passenger reportedly died, in flames.
From the video also, a young man could be seen coming out of the driver's side of the white Jaguar, which is believed to be owned by the wife of Archbishop Salifu Amoako, a popular pastor in Ghana.
Smoke could also be seen coming out of the Jaguar, with the man who came out of it seen casually walking away from the damage.
The man who took the video could be heard totally in shock, while cussing.
About the accident:
CCTV footage of the incident showed the white Jaguar moving at a very high speed.
Failing to slow down, the Jaguar crashed into at least one vehicle.
Minutes after the crash, smoke could be seen rising at the scene of the incident.
Some of the onlookers could be seen rushing to the scene of the accident to help.
An eyewitness - a motor rider, who rescued a girl in the second car, indicated that it was the Jaguar that started burning.
He indicated that he attempted to rescue the woman who was driving the second car but could not.
He, however, managed to rescue the girl before the second vehicle also caught fire.
According to reports, one of the vehicles struck a wooden electric pole, leading to the pole’s electrical cables falling and sparking the fire that engulfed the vehicles, burning them completely.
What the police have said:
The Ghana Police Service says it has commenced an investigation into the fatal car crash that occurred on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at East Legon in Accra.
The police statement issued on Monday, October 14, 2024, confirmed several earlier reports related to the accident, including the identity of the driver of one of the vehicles involved.
“The Ghana Police Service has commenced an investigation into an accident that occurred on Saturday, 12th October 2024, at East Legon in Accra, leading to the death of two persons.
“Preliminary police investigation indicates that the suspect driver, identified as Salifu Amoako, rammed his vehicle into another vehicle on Dzanie Ashie Street at East Legon. Both vehicles caught fire and burnt beyond recognition,” the statement said.
According to the police, while the suspect driver and other surviving victims remain under medical treatment, one of the surviving victims has been discharged, “while the bodies of the deceased victims have been deposited at the morgue for preservation and autopsy.”
