The various markets in the Ashanti regional capital of Kumasi were temporarily turned into prayer camps on Monday.
Fervent prayers were said for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer for the 2012 polls by the market women.
These included the Suame, Bantama, Anomangye, Kwadaso and the Kumasi Central markets.
These market women stunned onlookers when they abandoned their wares and in unison started praying.
The traders, among other things, prayed to thank God for preserving the life of Nana Akufo-Addo during the election petition hearing.
They also expressed their appreciation and joy to God over how things went at the Supreme Court.
The religious affair was organized by the Free Education Now Prayer Group (FENPG) headed by Andy Owusu.
Andy’s group, made up of children who could not go to senior high school due to poverty, have for the past one year been praying for Nana Akufo-Addo to become president.
Speaking with DAILY GUIDE, Andy said before the court case commenced his group prayed to God to protect Nana Akufo-Addo and other NPP bigwigs.
He said they also prayed to God to help the petitioners present their case well
so that they would be declared winners in the end. So far, Andy observed, God has been good to Nana Akufo-Addo and the petitioners in court.
He said prayers were also said on Monday to God to help the judges to give the correct verdict without fear or favour.
Andy said the NPP have nothing but God to win the case at the Supreme Court so he urged NPP members to always pray for the petitioners. He announced that a mammoth thanksgiving service would be held for the petitioners in Kumasi on July 29.
