The second lady, Samira Bawumia has urged all young people to take good care of their immediate environment and be good citizens.
According to her, the constitution entreats every citizen to contribute to the well-being of the community where they live.
“The constitution entreats us all to contribute to the well-being and protect, safe guard the community where we live because the environment is important to us” she said
She said, the environment tells the well-being of the people living in it adding that “humanity’s entire life support depends on the well-being of the environment”
“The environment plays an important role in even regulating the climate and also the source of natural beauty necessary for physical and mental health “she added
Speaking to a group of school children of Manle-Dada and African Unity Schools in the La Dadekotopon Municipal Assembly, the second lady advised the young people to cultivate the habit of keeping their environment clean.
“Ghana is one of the few countries where people are not afraid to throw rubbish out of a moving car, some people sleep and throw the rubbish into the gutters and when it rains there’s flooding, remember our actions have consequences” she added.
The second lady was speaking at the National Commission of Civic Education (NCCE) citizenship week celebration held at Manle-Dada basic school in Accra on Wednesday.
Citizenship week celebration according to the Ms.Kathleen Addy, Deputy Chairman Finance and Administration is a flagship program of the commission that is focused on interacting with young people about their rights and responsibilities.
This year’s celebration was themed “the environment and you.”
