Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Davis Opoku Ansah
Davis Ansah Opoku, also known as OPK, the Member of Parliament for Mpraeso Constituency, has issued a challenge to Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa to contest the Social Security and National Insurance Trust's (SSNIT) sale of shares in Ridge Royal Hotel to the Ahwoi family.
OPK asserts that the campaign by the North Tongu Member of Parliament against the sale of SSNIT hotels to Rock City would only be justified if he also combats the share allocation to the Ahwois.
In a series of social media posts, OPK questioned the rationale behind the opposition to a Ghanaian minister buying off state-run hotels, suggesting that the minister could potentially rescue a failing hotel.
He criticized the management of Ridge Royal by the Ahwoi family, funded by contributions from SSNIT, and called on Ablakwa to address this issue if he truly represents the interests of Ghanaians.
“So, because a Ghanaian minister owns Rock City, can he not save a dying hotel?
"Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Ahwoi, has enjoyed Ridge Royal and managed it like their property, while SSNIT uses my monthly contribution to pay some recurrent expenditures of these hotels.
"If indeed Ablakwa claims to be seeking the interest of the Ghanaian in all of these, he should be fighting SSNIT to take back the shares owned by his godfathers, The Ahwois!
"Enough of the nonsense in this country," he wrote.
On June 18, 2024, Ablakwa, backed by the NDC, the Minority in Parliament, and Organized Labour, submitted a petition to the President requesting a halt to the sale of four SSNIT hotels to Rock City.
He warned that if the President does not respond to the petition, similar protests will take place nationwide.
