Everyone in Ghana has failed when it comes to proper planning to save the country from devastating natural disasters, a former local government minister has pointed out.
Dr Joyce Aryee said the level of irresponsibility in Ghana is startling and it is about time leadership got serious with factors contributing to perennial floods in the country.
Ghana is in a state of mourning after over 152 lives were lost in a fire explosion and flood in Accra last Wednesday. Dozens sustained degrees of burnt injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Police and 37 Military Hospitals.
Speaking on the Starr Chat with Bola Ray on Starr 103.5FM on Wednesday, the former Information Minister under the JJ Rawlings regime said Ghanaians must be “responsible” although she believes leaders must bear the “blame” for the tragedy.
“All of us have failed,” the former CEO of the Ghana Chamber of Mines spewed.
“We have all failed,” Dr Aryee stressed.
“We litter the city. Even in front of our own house someone has to come and clean. We have to be responsible. Our leaders are also to be blamed... The time to act was yesterday and it is that urgent,” the founder of the Salt and Light Ministries, a para-church organisation, noted.
