The Ashanti Regional Minister Hon Simon Osei Mensah has stated that the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) can pay compensation to bereaved families at Foase who lost their relatives during the recent clash between residents and joint military/police team only when Police report is ready.

Three persons were shot dead while others sustained injuries after police officers rained life bullets on the residents on Wednesday February 7, 2017 following a clash over the relocation of district capital from Foase to Twedie.

Regional Minister Simon Osei Mensah speaking to the media said the medical bills of those who were injured and the deceased persons would be paid for now.

“It will be difficult for REGSEC to say now that we are planning for any compensation or not because we have to wait and when the police report is ready that’s where we can take decision. What I can say here is that the medical bill of those who were injured and the deceased ones would be paid” he said.

Simon Osei Mensah however urged Foase youth and authorities to calm down and maintain law and order to help government to implement the Supreme Court order of the relocation of the district capital to avoid any contempt.

He added that he will visit the community only if security personnel’s tell him that the security situation at the place is good.

“I have asked the DCE not to visit the community until the problem is resolved because if he goes there I don’t know what will happen. If he lynched I will be blame and I don’t want that to happen” he said.

Abusua Fm’s Osei Kwadwo who is following the development reported that workers at the district assembly have resumed work after the clash but the DCE is yet to come to work.
