The Twifo Atti-Morkwa District Security Council has taken a daring step to safeguard the environment and the welfare of its people by clamping down on illicit mining operations near the River Pra.

Under the direction of District Chief Executive, Robert Agyemang Nyantakyi, District Police Commander, Superintendent Charles Addai Boateng, and District NADMO Coordinator, Richmond Addai Marfo, the task force apprehended four people involved in illicit mining and demolished their apparatus, which included water pumping machines and chanfan.

The goal of the operation was to protect thousands of people's access to clean water from the destructive impacts of illicit mining on the River Pra.

The DCE for Twifu Atti-morkwa District, Agyeman Nyantakyi, said the council is dedicated to ending galamsey activities in the district and acknowledges the seriousness of the problem.

He highlighted the government's commitment to stopping illegal mining, but he also underlined that success requires teamwork.

Agyeman Nyantakyi, outlined the district assembly's logistical difficulties, pointing out that there aren't enough speed boats or life jackets to follow illegal miners on river bodies.

The DCE urged all Ghanaians to take up arms against galamsey, especially those who depended on the River Pra.

He stressed that winning this war calls for cooperation across national and regional divides as well as political affiliations.
