The seven justices will be sworn in after parliament's approval
President John Dramani Mahama is set to swear in seven newly appointed justices to the Supreme Court bench, following their approval by Parliament.
The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, July 3, 2025, at the Jubilee House and is expected to be attended by government officials and dignitaries, according to a report by The Law Platform.
Following their parliamentary approval after undergoing vetting, the seven nominees, Justices Sir Dennis Dominic Adjei, Gbiel Simon Suurbaareh, Senyo Dzamefe, Kweku Tawiah Ackaah-Boafo, Philip Bright Mensah, Janapare Bartels-Kodwo, and Hafisata Amaleboba, will now be elevated from the Court of Appeal to the Supreme Court.
Prior to their vetting, the nominated justices underwent a review by the Judicial Council, which provided advice to the President before the nominees were presented to Parliament.
This process was intended to ensure their suitability to serve on the bench of the country's highest court.
President Mahama’s nomination, outlined in a letter dated April 29, 2025, and signed by the Secretary to the President, Callistus Mahama, was made in accordance with Article 144(2) of the 1992 Constitution.
The provision empowers the President to appoint justices to the highest court in the land.
The new justices will take on key responsibilities in interpreting the Constitution and adjudicating cases that have significant legal and national implications.
