Some disgruntled members of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) contributed financially towards former president John Mahama’s GHS420,000 nomination and filing fees, Mr Frank Muniru, the Asawase Zongo Caucus Coordinator of the NDC, has said.

Executives of the Asawase Constituency of the NDC picked the nomination forms on behalf of Mr Mahama at the party’s headquarters in Accra.

The nomination forms are being sold for GHS20,000. The filing fee has been pegged at GHS400,000.

Speaking on Accra100.5FM’s Ghana Yensom hosted by Kwabena Prah Jnr. (The Don) on Tuesday, 4 December, Mr Muniru said other groups of people including spare parts dealers who are disappointed in the current Akufo-Addo administration, made donations to Mr Mahama’s campaign.

“Even NPP members who are disappointed in the way President Akufo-Addo is governing the country are contributing financially to JM’s comeback,” he told The Don.

He added: “Besides that, we have groups like the spare parts dealers association who are also contributing.”

Meanwhile, Mr Mahama has expressed gratitude to his supporters for raising the funds to enable him to contest the flag bearer slot of the National Democratic Congress.

Mr Mahama, in a Facebook post, said he was grateful for the support.

“I am overwhelmed by your generosity that within 24 hours many of you, not only known supporters of the NDC, have come together and raised more than enough to support the cost of picking my forms and filing the nomination to lead our great party to #Victory2020,” Mr Mahama posted.

The post continued: “I am further humbled by the teeming number of you, who gathered in my office, to contribute your widow’s mite to my campaign. Thank you.

“Through your generosity, you have once again proven that with unity, solidarity, dedication and hard work, we shall win election 2020 to alleviate the hardships of the suffering masses of Ghana. Thank you very much.”
