Member of Parliament (MP) for Odododiodoo in the Greater Accra Region, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye has described the festering Ga chieftaincy rumpus as “disgraceful and shameful”.

This comes on the heels of last week’s installation of another Ga Mantse, Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, even though Nii Adama Latse had been gazetted as Ga Mantse. In the midst of the chaos, a thrid claimant to the stool also emerged in the person of Nii Tackie Oblie from Abola Piam We.

Since the death of Boni Nii Amugi II in December 2004, there has been a lingering dispute over who is the rightful successor.

Speaking to Class News in an interview, Mr Vanderpuye questioned the latest installations.

“It was my wish and prayer that people will allow those [court processes filed against the chief] to be consummated and exhausted. What happened last week to me does not augur well for peace. I do not support anybody and I’m not partisan in this. I’m apolitical in this; whoever the people choose as Ga Manste, I am ready to work with that person and to worship him as such”.

He condemned the installation of multiple chiefs saying the situation is rather “pouring petrol into fire”.

Mr Vanderpuye expressed worry over the situation which has led to loss of lives over the years chaos in the area leading to fear and panic by residents.

For him the latest development is “uncalled for, disgraceful and totally unacceptable”.

Mr Vanderpuye said he feels “indicted and ashamed” that violence and anarchy have emerged again within the Ga state in an era where “civilisation and knowledge have become abundant for people to learn from”.
