A former Deputy Communications Director of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Michael Ampong, has blamed the problems confronting the party on the former executive director of the Danquah Institute, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko.

According to him, Mr. Otchere-Darko is the main brain behind the divisions and "personality cults" that have afflicted the party in recent times.

“I blame all the things going on in our party (NPP) on Gabby. He is the cause of it all.

“He created the tensions between Kufuor and Akufo-Addo supporters and he knows.

“He and a few people around Akufo-Addo try as much as possible to victimize and stigmatize anyone they suspect to be loyal to Kufour.

"Currently in the NPP, anybody with some kind of respect for Kufuor is seen as a traitor,” the failed national youth organiser aspirant told Okay FM Monday.

Ampong added that the party can only win power in the 2016 elections if people around the flagbearer learn to be more accommodating and tolerant of opposing views.

There is a brewing storm within the national executive body of the NPP – General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong and Chairman Paul Afoko on the one hand, and the first Vice Chair Freddie Blay and his camp on the other.

The recriminations were sparked by a steering committee meeting organised and chaired by Mr Blay last week while both Mr Afoko and Mr Agyepong were away.

The General Secretary and Chairman have qualms with the organisation of the meeting behind their back.

Mr Agyepong has said Mr Blay could have waited for him to return from his trip to Kumasi before convening the meeting.

Mr Blay, on the other hand insists he was in the right to have held the meeting per the party’s constitution, which gives him the power to do so in the absence of the chairman.

Different groups and various prominent people in the party have taken sides on the matter.
