Aspiring National Chairman of the Progressive People's Party (PPP) Nana Ofori Owusu has expressed resentments over the country's National Identity Card registration.

Executive Secretary of the National Identification Authority (NIA), Prof. Ken Agyemang Attafuah has announced the commencement of the national identity card (Ghana Card) registration in the Greater Accra Region Monday May 28, 2018.

According to him, the registration in the Greater Accra Region is intended to last for approximately three months.

The exercise is aimed at registering all Ghanaians within one year.

The Ghana Card will, in accordance with the country's laws, become the only card to be used in transactions where identification is required.

But addressing the programme on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' programme, Nana Ofori Owusu wondered why the government has to restart the identity card registration all over when there have been previous works.

He asked the NIA about their unwillingness to continue to improve upon the previous registration, questioning the Authority's logic to have a new database when there's already an existing one.

He also lambasted the move further wondering if the monies spent on the registration in previous years will, therefore, go waste by virtue of the fact that the current administration won't rely on previous database to register Ghanaians for the Ghana Card.

To him, some people should be taken to court because “we continue to waste taxpayers’ money on projects".

"There’s discontinuity. We begin everything all over all the time . . . Then the money that has been spent in the past, who accounts for it? Where is the money? How did they use it and what did they use it for? We can’t live as a nation like this without continuity . . . We care about Ghana”, he told host Kwami Sefa Kayi.
