As the electioneering campaign peaks for the upcoming elections, the Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG) held a forum under the theme the “State of Preparedness of the Ghana Police Service to ensure a Peaceful Election this year.”

According to Major General Nii Carl Coleman (Rtd) of IDEG explained that the forum seeks to get the assurance of the security agencies and the national security election task force that Ghana would have a peaceful election and its outcome would equally be credible.

He said with barely six weeks to the elections, Ghanaians are worried about security and conducts of the elections. Security is everybody’s business but it is equally the business of the men and women in uniform who have the constitutional mandate in making sure the citizenry are safe, especially during these forthcoming elections.

He added that the political vigilante groups formed by political parties who seek to protect their interest while usurping the powers of the security agencies with impunity is a worry.

The program was held at the IDEG auditorium at East Legon.
