Ghana Priest slams British Archbishop for 'gay letter'

Local priests in Ghana have raised concerns about a letter written by the Archbishops of Canterbury and York to Anglican Churches in Africa toward convincing them to have a soft spot for homosexuals.

The two church leaders in a letter Wednesday asked the Presidents of Nigeria and Uganda to revise their laws that criminalise same sex relationships.

The letter said homosexuals are loved and valued by God and should not be victimised or diminished.

The letter is also addressed to all heads of national Churches in the worldwide Anglican Communion.

But the Methodist Bishop of the Obuasi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Stephen Richard Bosomtwi-Ayensu has condemned the attempt by the Archbishops of Canterbury and York to foist same sex relationships on the Anglican Church.

“My understanding for this people who are advocating that African Governments must review their understanding on this topic is just unfortunate,” Rev. Bosomtwi-Ayensu said.

He added that “If they are ministers, preachers of the gospel, those who the scriptures, those who have been called by God if they know the scriptures properly and very well I don’t think they will go to that extent to make that statement”.
